Record turnout for teams, not for fish.
Sure you can put twenty teams of the regions finest anglers out on Lake Bloomington. Does that mean you will have a weigh-in that defies all previous knowledge of the lake? Not tonight. Of the twenty two-angler teams, five, yes five (5) fish were weighed at the scales. Of course, two of them were five-pound-class fish, which made for a tight race.
The couples team of Brad and Lynn Norris pulled all the stops and brought the event’s and year’s biggest bass to the scale, which earned them a first place victory and big bass honors. Their fish almost cracked the five and a half pound mark at 5.49 pounds. If ever there was a way to work into the first fish of the year, this is it! Lynn - email the photos to me and I’ll post them for you.
Next up was another hot start-up from Jerry Martoglio with his first fish of the year. Too bad he had to take perennial good luck charm Gena Norris with him and let her catch it to get on the board! Their bass was the second five-pound-class bass at 5.08 pounds, earning them second place and disbelief that a fish of that size wasn’t big bass. They also had some good looking crappie in the livewell.
Rounding out the top three was Chad Fandel and PJ Knott with a nice fish weighing 3.55 pounds. Chad and PJ must have been so excited to get a payday fish that they left without collecting their winnings. Late reports said that third place was good enough to pay for everyone’s burgers at Green Gables who stopped. Just kidding guys, Jerry has your hard-earned cash. Nice work, too, on the mega-walleye that you caught.
Once again, just out of the money was Dave “Fourth Place Finish” Norris and Greg Bayles with a solid keeper of 3.38 pounds. Right behind them was the fifth and final fish of the event from the team of Dean and Dady at 2.67 pounds.
Fifteen teams blanked this evening. I’m not going to mention any names because the fishing was punishment enough.
Next week is at Evergreen. We’ll start at 5:30 PM. Anyone needing a partner for any Tuesday night event can email the club and we’ll try to connect you with the others by posting your needs on the site.
