With summer fast approaching, the fishing is heating up as well. Fourteen teams convened on Lake Bloomington under mostly cloudy skies with a good chance of rain and temps in the low 70’s. Yes, rain again during a BNBC tournament. Two teams would bring in the first limits of the Tuesday series. Let’s recap the action.
The Short Bus Guide Service took a night off and let Bierbaum’s Bird Dog Service take the reins. What a great decision! The team of James Hurt and Dennis Bierbaum brought a first-place clenching sack of five fish to the scales, and crushed the competition with 14.58 pounds. Hurt had two of the five keepers, one going 4.16 pounds. It wasn’t enough to wrap up the big bass cash, though. Dennis boated the other three solid bas, giving the team a leg up on the heavy bag of the year award. If it stands, this would be a second time for the team and this honor. The team’s tackle selection for the tournament had to be checked with officials before it began. It was ruled the Aviva Fishing Buddy couldn’t be used without paying a second entry fee because it’s another boat and a member had to be on it (Editor’s note: Short Bus is way too big for that craft, anyway). The team had to opt instead for the Helicopter Lure and Rocket Rods to get the job done. (2nd editor’s note: I can’t believe I just wrote that…) To celebrate, they bought rounds of drinks after the event for all those that stayed.
Bringing the second limit of the tournament and the year were Overocker and Vickers, our friends from the far north (Streator). They opted for more conventional tackle and bagged 5 nice fish on plastics in one of the creeks. Their weight almost made ten pounds at 9.89. Still a phenomenal night of fishing anyhwere you go!
In third place with four fish was Dave Whalen and Adam Stark. Dave and Adam brought 8.51 pounds in, but noted they lost several 4 and 5-pound class fish throughout the night. That story reeks of Brett Myers entries… The team enjoyed catching one of their fish behind Hurt and Bierbaum, but liked the free drinks from them a little more.
With the event’s big bass was Larry Russell and Randy Ferguson. Their hawg was 4.73 pounds at the scales, but Larry couldn’t find his bullet weights after releasing the fish. Russell and Ferguson posted a total weight of 6.80, right behind the fourth place finishers Bounds and Sharrow with 6.89 pounds.
