BNBC Sunday Tournament Series - Illinois River, July 26

Moving from our normal lakes and reservoirs to the running current and flying carp infested waters of the Illinois River proved to be nothing the club couldn’t handle.  Twelve teams launched from the Liverpool access to the low waters of the river.  At take-off, the river was between 6 and 7 feet down, closing off some anglers to honey-hole backwaters.  To add to the fun, Havana had the boat races on tournament day which resulted in a closure from there to Spoon River.

Pre-fishing reports weren’t giving many high hopes for limits, even with the 12-inch minimum length.  Post-tournament results spoke to the contrary, as 13 limits were brought in.

Veteran club member and the current leader in the AOY points race Ken Petersen wrapped up another victory with his 5-fish limit and the event’s big bass.  KP fished old dock pilings with everything in the boat to secure the win.  Petersen totalled 8.66 pounds at the scales with big bass of 2.88 pounds, a super fish on the river.

Just a tenth of a pound behind KP was Scott Bree ( I can’t put you first because you didn’t win!) bringing in a limit going 8.56 pounds.  Scott wouldn’t reveal any info on his day, but he was in productive waters for sure as his bag combined with the co-angler’s went over 16 pounds.  That’s impressive!

Bringing up another placing finish was Andy Wegner to round out the top three.  Wegner fished Quiver according to rumor, and was just eight-hundredths off Bree at 8.48 pounds with his five fish limit.
