BNBC Tuesday Night Tournament Series - Dawson Strikes (Out) Again

BNBC Sunday Tournament Series - Evergreen Lake

“We Came, We Fished, It Blew”
There’s nothing like a good strong Central Illinois wind to suck the fun out of a tournament day, and by God, we had it today. 30 mph constant wind with 40+ mph gusts kept our anglers busy on trolling motors and less able to fish. Water temps have climbed over the past few days, with some reports of 63 to 67 degree temps. 13 boats braved the gale force winds, but despite valiant efforts, out of 24 anglers, only 11 prevailed with bass. Statements like “I need a beer and an ibuprofen” were common at the events conclusion. Some members noted they were still bobbing even on land. There will be a signifigant drain on the power grid once all the trolling motor batteries are plugged in, too!

BNBC Sunday Tournament Series - Clinton Lake, April 5

On Sunday, April 5, the Bloomington-Normal Bass Club tested its mettle against Clinton Lake. There were 13 registered boats and 24 anglers on Central Illinois largest lake. Launch was at 6:45am and ran to 3:15pm, with take-off leaving from the Clinton Marina. The forecast was for rain and thundershowers all day, but the weather held out until 2:30 PM when the heavy rains hit. Winds were 20 to 30 MPH all day which made hole-sitting just that much tougher.

The Club anglers prevailed with 6 limits of 3 fish weighed in. It took 10-pounds plus to place in the money showing that the big bite was on. Andy Wegner claimed first place with a total weight of 10.26 pounds, followed closely by James Hurt’s second place sack bringing 10.17 pounds, anchored by the event’s big bass of 5.56 pounds. Jamie Maisenbacher rounded out the top three with a bag tipping the scales at 10.08 pounds. Just out of the money was Ken Petersen at 10.04 pounds anchored by another nice bass at 5.31 pounds.

Congrats to all anglers who participated and braved the elements!

BNBC Tuesday Night Tournament Series - Dawson Lake 3 - BNBC 0

Dawson Lake again proved itself to be the toughest April fishery for the BNBC. It only gave up 3 fish on Tuesday evening to the eight teams in attendance. The air was colder than the water at 47 degrees at launch.

Scott Bree, fishing solo because his partner’s junk hurt, wrapped up first place and big bass with a 1.93 pound bass, obviously caught on dynamite. In second place, again using high explosives were the on-fire team of Eckhard and Barth with a 1.81 pound bass. The last fish, and just out of the money, was brought in by Larry Russell and Randy Ferguson who opted for actual lures. It was a respectable 1.78 pounds.

Notable was Short Bus claiming to have busted off a “giant that would have went 4 pounds” due to a rookie mistake. There were the proverbial tears in his beer that night.

BNBC Tuesday Night Tournament Series - Double the Boats & Double the Fish!

Ten teams took to the chilly waters of Dawson Lake in search of any sign of aquatic life. Two teams were successful in their endeavors, but combined didn’t crack the 5-pound mark.

Capturing Big Bass and first place honors were Randy Barth and Nate Eckhard with a fish weighing in at 2.36 pounds. Their luck ended there as reports of a rod and reel taking a dive off the boat filtered in. Ron Bristow and Jim Sherman took second place with a bass weighing 2.13 pounds.

There you have it; double the teams and double the fish caught compared to last week.

BNBC Tuesday Night Tournament Series Begins - One Fish Wins It All!

Five teams braved the windy and chilly conditions Tuesday night at Dawson Lake for the first tournament of the series. Conditions were tough, and the fishing was even tougher. The members of the BNBC really can shine in these harsh conditions, and the team of Jamie Maisenbacher and Scott Bree pulled all the stops. Read the rest of this entry »
